A new building in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, for the Berkshire Botanical Garden. To serve as the home of a youth summer camp, eight species of local trees are incorporated in the frame. Black cherry forks frame the large sliding-door openings at the eaves, while white ash and red maple stems support the gable wall. Kingrod trusses are both structurally efficient and keep the focus on the mix of red maple, yellow birch, and shad forked struts under the roof, while black walnut bolster blocks and splines add contrast. Adam designed and fabricated the frame. Ben Brungraber lent his inimitable engineering prowess; Scott Brockway was the adventurous sawyer. General contracting by A.J. Schnopp, of Dalton, Massachusetts.
