In this class, the first I taught at the Heartwood School, at the invitation of my mentor and teacher, the late, great Will Beemer, students learned developed drawing principals, derived from the French l’art du trait, to solve for asymmetric curved hip rafters. Facility with irregular pitches and curved forms is uncommon among contemporary carpenters; one of Adam’s motivations for teaching is for no carpenter’s imagination to be limited by their skill set.
