Many trail shelters were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s according to a standard plan (see below). The last remaining such shelter in New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest, the Coppermine Shelter, sits just below Bridal Veil Falls on the west slope of Cannon Mountain. In the summer of 2023, Adam led a Timber Framers Guild instructional workshop to train local Forest Service staff in repair and restoration work at this shelter. Several miles from the trailhead, this project emphasized safe working procedures in backcountry conditions. The shelter was lifted and levelled, several logs replaced in part or whole, the dry-laid stone foundation rebuilt, and several conscientious details added to extend the usable life of this historic structure.
